![]() ![]() ![]() Meanwhile, King's old flame, Joan Dillinger, an ex-agent whose security firm has been hired to find the kidnapped presidential candidate, hires King to help in the hunt. Maxwell sees King on TV and decides to look into the event that caused his disgrace, so similar to hers. Then a body appears in the office of King, who's now a successful lawyer in North Carolina. Eight years later, agent Michelle Maxwell lets the candidate she's watching enter a funeral parlor room alone he's kidnapped. It begins in 1996, when Secret Service agent Sean King is distracted-by what isn't revealed until near the book's end-just when the presidential candidate he's guarding is shot dead. ![]() The novel is primarily a mystery, with lots of talk and untangling of clues, and a less than gripping one at that. And that is the problem: this story of two disgraced Secret Service agents who come together to solve two campaign-trail crimes doesn't play to Baldacci's strengths, which are suspense and action (as well as strong characterizations here's one thriller author who writes people that readers care about). "We just solved a huge, complicated mystery," says one protagonist to another in this latest novel from the bestselling author of Last Man Standing, Absolute Power, etc. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments A Sibila by Agustina Bessa-Luís![]() ![]() ![]() Various works have been translated in various countries and some were adapted to the cinema, such as Francisca, Vale Abraão and As Terras de Risco by Manoel de Oliveira. Finally, you’ll learn how to adopt the behaviors of the secure attachment style and use them to make your relationships more fulfilling. Then, you’ll discover the problems that can arise if your intimacy needs clash with your partner’s and how to handle it when they do. In this guide, you’ll first learn how humans generally relate to romantic partners: What are secure and insecure attachment styles, and why do they matter? You’ll then learn more about the three attachment styles, and what your attachment style indicates you need from a relationship. In Attached, psychiatrist Amir Levine and psychologist Rachel Heller contend that many of our relationship issues stem from differences in how we perceive and express intimacy-and that, by understanding this, we can achieve greater harmony in our relationships. 1-Page Summary 1-Page Book Summary of Attached ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments The double novel josé saramago![]() ![]() António asks Tertuliano to clarify one more thing: the exact time he was born. On reading this printed version of Barkman’s work as opposed to seeing it online, I was struck by how much detail and texture is in his illustrations. (also he’s a Canadian artist which makes me so excited for some reason lol, I love supporting Canadian artists!!!) But I’ll also include a bunch of comics in this review if you wanna sample the general tone of his work, so here we go… You can find the comics here on Tumblr or here on Barkman’s website. If you don’t know about False Knees, it’s a webcomic that Joshua Barkman started that got super popular because it is GREAT. If you’re looking for something fun and light during these not-so-fun-and-light times, then False Knees is the book for you. I specifically requested this book from the publisher because I’m a huge fan of his work and was so excited when they agreed to send me a copy! Today I’m doing something a little different by reviewing this absolutely delightful collection of comics from Joshua Barkman, creator of the False Knees webcomics. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments Achebe books![]() In a contemporary review, Chris Dunton wrote: "The essays in his new book remind us also how tough-minded, how properly insistent, he can be in exposing false and demeaning ideas about Africa and its culture." The book is dedicated to Professor Michael Thelwell. As an ethnic Igbo, Achebe was a staunch supporter of Biafra's unsuccessful attempt to secede from Nigeria in 1967. The novel tells the story of the widespread corruption of Nigerian politicians and ends in a military coup. He also discusses several notable authors and shares his opinion on the role of writers and writing in cultures. Achebe published his fourth novel, 'A Man of the People,' in 1966. The opening essay, " An Image of Africa: Racism in Conrad's Heart of Darkness", challenged the prevailing opinions in the west about Joseph Conrad's depiction of African people. Several of the essays caution against generalizing all African people into a monolithic culture, or using Africa as a facile metaphor. ![]() Hopes and Impediments: Selected Essays, 1965-1987 is collection of essays by Chinua Achebe, published in 1988. ![]() ![]() ![]() I just didn’t get the sense that Churchill ever gave me clear and fairly precise explanation of who the settlers were and exactly where they came from.
